PASS LINE - When playing the Pass Line, you are playing with the shooter. You can also play against the shooter and that bet is called the "DonÆt Pass". ItÆs a mirror image; just the opposite of a PASS LINE with one exception. On the PASS LINE, if the shooter rolled a 7 or 11 you win or 2, 3 and 12 you lose. On the DonÆt Pass, if the shooter rolls a 7 or 11, you lose and a 2 or 3, you win. Now here is the exception. If a 12 rolls you would lose on the PASS LINE. On the DonÆt Pass itÆs a bar roll, a push or a standoff. This is why it reads DonÆt Pass bar the 12. Remember, the PASS LINE is a contract bet which means you cannot pick up your bet. You can add to it but you canÆt take money away. On the DonÆt Pass you can never add money to your bet but you pick up your bet at any time. The DonÆt Pass is bet in this area. LetÆs bet $2. The shooter throws a 4. For you to win this bet, the shooter must roll a 7 to win. If a 4 is rolled you lose.
On the PASS LINE, we could take odds. On the DonÆt PASS LINE we must lay the odds. On the 4 we must lay 2 to 1 which means we put up $4 to win $2. We place $2 next to our flat bet and $2 on top playing 2 to 1. The shooter rolls a 7. The PASS LINE loses but the DonÆt Pass wins. The dealer will pay you even money on your flat bet and $2 for your $4 odds. We lay 2 to 1. Now, letÆs say the shooter rolls a 5. The dealer marks the 5 as the point and when playing the PASS LINE we got paid 3 to 2. On the donÆt, we must lay $3 to win $2. We place $2 next to our flat bet and $1 on top. We are laying 3 to 2. The shooter rolls a 7 which means the PASS LINE loses but the DonÆt Pass wins. The dealer will come out and pay you even money on a flat bet and $2 for your $3 odds. Now the shooter rolls a 6. The dealer will mark the 6 as the point. On the PASS LINE we got paid 6 to 5 so on the DonÆt Pass we must lay $6 to win $5. We then take $5 and put it next to our flat bet and $1 on top. LetÆs say the shooter rolls a losers 7 for the PASS LINE and a winner for the DonÆt Pass. The dealer pays even money on the flat bet and $5 for our $6 odds. The reason we have to lay the odds are because the 7 was the number you needed to win.
Remember, the 7 can be made six ways. ThatÆs six ways to win and only three ways to lose on the 4 and 10. We have to lay 2 to 1. Six ways to win on the 7 and four ways to lose on the 5 and 9. We must lay 3 to 2. Six ways to win on the 7 and five ways to lose on the 6 and 8. We have to lay $6 to $5. Remember, the 4 and 10 pay the same, 5 and 9 pay the same and the 6 and 8 always pay the same.
